Pre-Kindergarten Welcome Letter
ALAMO COUNTRY SCHOOL

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Alamo Country School.  I am very excited to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an enriching and rewarding school year.  My objectives this year are to help better prepare your child for kindergarten emotionally, socially, and academically in a positive and nurturing environment.

We will focus on one letter per week, and all of our art projects and/or academic worksheets will pertain to that letter.  In addition to our letter of the week your children will also practice:

  • Writing and recognition of capital and lower case letters
  • Shape, color, and number recognition
  • Spelling and writing names
  • Phonics
  • Patterns and sequencing
  • Problem solving
  • Development of fine motor skills through the use of scissors and other activities

I will conduct Kindergarten assessments in the Fall and Spring so that both myself and yourselves can keep track of your child’s progress.  This will also give you a chance to see what skills your child could benefit from working on at home as well as in school.

In addition to our daily academics we also have Share Day on Wednesdays and Book Day on Thursdays.  Please make sure that your child only brings a toy on Share Day that begins with the letter of the week, as they will not be able to present their toy to the class unless it begins with the letter.

Each child will have their own cubby and art folder.  Please make sure that all your child’s belongings fit into their cubby.  Also, please be sure to provide a labeled extra set of clothes to keep in case of an accident or spill.

Your child’s art projects and worksheets will be put in their folder when they are ready to be taken home.  Please do not remove art from walls or drying table.  Also, be sure to check your child’s folder at least once a week so as to help monitor your child’s progress and help foster a sense of pride in their work.  Children often love to share their accomplishments with their families!

I am looking forward to working with each child and am excited to be a part of their growth and development.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year.  The best times to talk are during drop off (before 10:00am), or by phone between 1:00 and 3:00pm.

Let’s work together to make this year full of fun, learning, and personal growth for your child!

Sincerely,

Miss Shavon
